Every now and then we get to have a little fun at work and Friday (June 18th) was one of those days. Johnny McLaughlin and Nicole Ramsperger from Heartbreaking Dawns came down from Hudson Valley, New York and visited our store to host a tasting.
Heartbreaking Dawns hot sauces and other products focus on flavor as well as heat. Johnny and Nicole offered-up their Classic Gold Habanero Hot Sauce, Jalapeno Pineapple Hot Sauce, Mango Habanero Hot Sauce, award-winning Fiery Trail Preserves and their latest product offering of Infused Sea Salts.
The tasting gave our Florida customers a chance to experience Heartbreaking Dawns products as well as some 3 Sisters Chocolate Basil-Lime Truffles, Sea Salt Caramels and Gooey-To-Die For Brownies. We also had a few ArmadilloPepper.com BBQ sauces out for the tasting: Datil Do-It Datil BBQ , Rufus Teague Honey Sweet and R.P. Hill Mango-Rum Madness.
Everybody had a lot of fun tasting the different sauces and chocolates. Several of our customers “stocked-up” on Johnny and Nicole’s sauces. Probably the most unique and most talked-about product was Heartbreaking Dawns award-winning Fiery Trail Preserves. Not exactly a chutney or pepper jelly, Fiery Trail Preserves include a blend of all natural peaches, cranberries and ginger. All of those delicious flavors are then finished off by a firm bite of Peruvian Orange Peppers for a truly decadent delight. Johnny took a block of cream cheese, topped it with the Fiery Trail Preserves and customers experienced it with a cracker. We loved this one so much that we added it to our ArmadilloPepper.com offering of Heartbreaking Dawns’ hot sauces.
A signature characteristic of Heartbreaking Dawn sauces is the blending of heat and fruit that results in really interesting flavor profiles. If you decide to try some Heartbreaking Dawn Sauces (and we recommend you do), Nicole offers up a Chicken Marinade recipe and we’ve got some ideas on how to use Fiery Tail Preserves.

Of course sampling all the sauces at the tasting was great, but what I will remember most was spending a day with Johnny and Nicole and getting to know them better. As the day went on, it was apparent that they are truly dedicated to turning-out great tasting sauces with complex flavors by using the freshest ingredients. They are clearly targeting the gourmet taste buds out there and I can tell you that our customers and myself really appreciate their attention to detail.
