Armadillo Pepper Chow Chow Relish

Armadillo Pepper is proud to announce the availability our new Chow-Chow Relish. Everyone at Armadillo Pepper is from the south and all southerners know about Chow-Chow, so this is a very exciting for us.In the southern U.S.A. Chow-Chow Relish has been a tradition on pinto beans and black-eyed peas for generations. With that said, uses for chow chow go way beyond pinto beans. It also pairs well as a topping on brats, hot dogs and hamburgers.

There are many variations, but it is the pickled tomatoes, onions, cabbage, mustard seed, vinegar and peppers that establish the base for this wonderful condiment.

For those who are not familiar, Chow-Chow is a pickled relish condiment that dates to the 1700’s here in the U.S.A. It’s southern origins are believed to be tied to farming when at the end of the gardening year, they would take the remaining vegetables (after the first frost) and then make the relish.

Regardless of when or where Chow-Chow originated, there is no disputing that it has been enjoyed in the southern U.S. for well over 200 years and still is a staple to this day.
