Heartbreaking Dawns Strawberry Trail Preserves Review

Hearbreaking Dawns Strawberry Trail Preserves
Today, I am reviewing Heartbreaking Dawns Strawberry Trail Preserves with TrinidadMoruga Scorpion Peppers.Heartbreaking Dawns is out of Hudson Valley, founded, owned and operated by husband and wife team Chef Johnny and Nicole McLaughlin. Their original Fiery Trail Preserves has been Hudson Valley’s 1st Place Chutney for 3 straight years, so I’m excited to review this updated, strawberry-scorpion pepper version.

For those not yet familiar with Heartbreaking Dawns, Johnny and Nicole started out by taking their sauces to family and friends. One of their friends suggested they try selling their sauces and as they say the rest in history. Heartbreaking Dawns has exploded on to the fiery foods scene the last 3 years. Chef Johnny appeared on the Food Network’s hit show “Chopped” last year and in 2013 he was on the premier episode of CNBC’s Crowd Rules and they won the competition.

Their Strawberry Trail Preserves are packaged in an 8 oz jar, ingredients include Strawberries, Sugar, Cranberries, Crystallized Ginger, Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Peppers, Vinegar, Garlic, Mustard Powder, Red Pepper.

Vanilla Ice Cream & Heartbreaking Dawns Strawberry Trail Preserves

In our video review, we look at color, aroma, texture, flavor and heat level. We also discuss recommendations for how to use these flavorful preserves including as an appetizer with cream cheese, as a glaze on meat dishes and as a dessert topping.

The strawberry and ginger combination accented by the Moruga Scopion Pepper makes for incredible flavor and a heat level at around 5 out of 10. I think I’ve found my new favorite topping for vanilla ice cream.
