Today I am reviewing Minorcan Datil Sweet Heat Salsa – Mild Heat from Minorcan Datil Pepper Products.
Minorcan Datil Pepper Products is a family run business in St Augustine, FL that has been making Datil Hot Sauces, Salsas, Mustards and Datil Vinegar for 20 years. If you are from Florida or if you’ve visited St. Augustine, FL then you may very well be familiar with the Datil Pepper. For those who have not yet tried Datils, these peppers are slightly less hot than a Habanero Pepper and have a sweeter, fruitier taste. The heat intensity for these peppers ranges from 100,000 to 300,000 Scoville Units,
More Datil Peppers are grown in northeast Florida than any other part of the world. Northeast Florida is deep in Datil Pepper history as the Minorcans moved to St. Augustine and brought their Datil Peppers here over 235 years ago.
This Sweet Heat Salsa is a chunky, garden-style salsa. From the label, a 1 oz serving has 30 calories, 0g fat and 1g protein. Ingredients include Tomatoes, Onions, Green Peppers, Vinegar, Sugar, Datil Peppers.
On first taste, you will detect sweetness from the sugar then a very pleasant tomato/green pepper combination (reminds me of a fresh garden salad) followed by a nice low heat heat of the Datil Pepper.
